WMS comes to Newcastle

Next week is a busy week for many academics involved in muscle disease research as the 13th Annual World Muscle Society Congress gets underway in Newcastle. TREAT-NMD will have a booth near the registration desk at the conference hotel, and if you are attending the meeting we hope you drop by to meet the coordination team!

Workshop: Best practice in molecular diagnostics of DMD and BMD

In conjunction with the TREAT-NMD activities on diagnostic standards, a working group of European organisations has joined forces to hold a best practice meeting on the molecular diagnostics of Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophies, to be held on 14-16 November 2008 in Naarden in the Netherlands. Register your interest before 15th October.

Job opportunity at the Molecular Genetic Centre of the Montpellier University Hospital: Medical Doctor specialized in molecular genetics

The Molecular Genetic Centre of the University Hospital of Montpellier has an opening for a M.D. specialized in molecular genetics, with a strong background in human genetics including laboratory diagnosis and research. The selected candidate will have first a contract of at least one year that may be followed by a permanent position.

Meeting report: 38th EAMDA annual meeting

The 38th annual meeting of the European Alliance of neuroMuscular Disorders Associations (EAMDA) took place from 11-14th September 2008 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The meeting was organised together with the Bulgarian Neuromuscular Diseases Association (BNMDA), ENMC and the TREAT-NMD network. The main themes of the conference were “Research & Therapy Development Process”, “Treatment & Treatment Opportunities” and “Standards of Care & Practical Issues”.

Action Duchenne conference and call for posters

Action Duchenne, a UK Duchenne patient organisation, are holding their annual conference in London on 31st October/1st November. They are also offering a poster prize of £500 for the best poster on Duchenne research by a research group.

Santhera publication on idebonone in European Heart Journal

TREAT-NMD partner Santhera Pharmaceuticals, a Swiss specialty pharmaceutical company focused on neuromuscular diseases, has announced the publication of study results in the European Heart Journal that support the potential efficacy of Santhera's lead compound SNT-MC17 (INN: idebenone) in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
