Dr Anna Mayhew is a Consultant Research Physiotherapist at The MRC Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases at Newcastle, Newcastle University.
Anna initially specialised in paediatrics and neonates and gained a PhD in predicting outcome in preterm infants. Since 2009 she has worked for the Newcastle Muscle Centre where she is a consultant research physiotherapist involved in clinical and research activity for children and adults. Prior to this she was Network Coordinator for Smartnet, a UK based project on the collection of clinical measures for SMA.
Anna has published several articles on the development of outcome measures for use in various NMD’s including DMD and SMA.These have incorporated the use of modern psychometrics.
Anna is a consultant for various pharmaceutical companies specifically relating to clinical evaluation including Prosensa, PTC and ISIS, She is involved in training clinical evaluators for clinical trials both in DMD and SMA and in the ongoing development of clinically relevant measures for use in neuromuscular trials.
