Professor Lars Sandman is a philosopher by training and received his PhD in practical philosophy from Gothenburg university in 2002. Lars is currently Professor of Care Ethics at University of Borås, Sweden, and guest Professor at the National Centre for Priority Setting in Health Care at Linköping University, Sweden.

Lars is also involved as an ethics consultant with the county council of Västra Götaland, and is a scientific advisor in ethics to the Swedish council of Health Technology Assessment and to the Swedish Dental- and Pharmaceutical Benefits Agency. Lars has also been the ethics consultant of a number of national guidelines at the Swedish Board of Health and Well-being. Between 2004 and 2013 he was the scientific secretary at one of the six regional Ethics Review Boards in Sweden, managing the Swedish research ethics legislation.

Lars\' research interests are currently focused on three separate but interrelated areas: ethics in priority setting and health technology assessment; organizational ethics in terms of developing organizational support for ethical reflection and decision-making ; and shared decision-making. Lars has previously published on topics such as palliative care ethics, ethics in elderly care, and prehospital ethics.
