After twelve years of drug research in the Basel pharmaceutical industry, Urs joined the University of Lausanne as Professor of Pharmacology in 1992. Since 2004 he has headed the Laboratory of Pharmacology at Geneva – Lausanne School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Geneva. Since 1992, he has had full responsibility for the entire curriculum in pharmacology for pharmacy students.

His recent research interests include pharmacology of cellular calcium signalling and with his research team, he focuses on altered calcium handling in Duchenne muscular dystrophy & pharmacological approaches.

Urs is also a member of the Conseil Scientifique de l’Association Française contre les myopathies, an expert panelist of the Swiss National Science Foundation and was Treasurer from 2006 to 2014 of the The International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR).
